Obituary

Porfirio Ruiz (Porfi), passed away peacefully at the age of 75, on Friday, May 19, 2017 at Loyola Hospital in Maywood, IL. Porfirio was a longtime resident of Orlando, FL, but recently returned to Chicago only months prior to his passing.

Visitation will be held at Lakeview Funeral Home (1458 W Belmont Ave.) on Tuesday, May 23 from 3:00 - 9:00 pm. Mass will be held at St. Mary's of the Lake (4200 N Sheridan Rd.) on Wednesday, May 24 at 10 am.

Porfirio was born in Yabucoa, Puerto Rico to Inocencio and Justiniana Ruiz (Ruiz). Porfirio worked for 55 years as a bartender, maintenance engineer and baker. Porfirio was a loving and humble man with an infectious smile that could light up even the darkest rooms. He had a tremendous passion for music and singing. Porfirio was an active member of the Choir at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Florida, alongside his best friend, Victor Pantoja (Maria), as well as many other close friends whom were close to his heart.

Left to honor Porfirio and his love are; Beloved Wife of 40 years Carmen, Children: Elizabeth, Sammy, Angel, Emma (Thomas), Marisol, Elizabeth; 10 Grandchildren and 16 Great-Grandchildren; Brothers: Carlos, Thomas, Pancho, Ernesto, Cuco, Sisters: Phela, Rosa, and many sister and brother in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends. Porfirio was predeceased by his parents and brother Pablo Ruiz.

The Family of Porfirio Ruiz wishes to thank all doctors at the Cardinal Bernadine Cancer Center and Loyola University Hospital, with extended gratitude's for exceptional care and compassion to: Dr. Edward Melian, Dr. Daniel Sissbarro, Radiation Oncology Nurses, Nurse Barb, ICU Nurses (Sandy), PCT's (Sheena), PT & OT (Katie and Casey), you all made Porfirio's battle with cancer that much easier and touched all our lives.
