Obituary

Hardin III, Lewis Thomas (Tom)
The world lost a great man on Thursday, April 30, 2015. Tom Hardin died peacefully in his Chicago home. Preceded in death by his parents, Lewis T. Hardin II and Catherine Lutz Alongi; his wife of 54 years, Kathleen Myers Hardin; and sister, Carol Hardin Earley. Survived by sons Joel (Maridith) Hardin and Scott (Marla) Hardin; and sisters Sharon (Tommy) Ethridge and Mary Kay O’Leary.
A long time resident of Florissant, Tom was born in Anna, IL, on January 30, 1935, and grew up in Southern Illinois and Oak Ridge, TN. He graduated from Oak Ridge High School and the University of Tennessee. The family moved to the St Louis area while Tom was working for IBM, where he had a very successful career. He went on to excel in the printing industry, becoming vice president of General Credit Forms. Tom was always a man of deep moral principles and had many friends, and great respect.
Upon Tom’s retirement, both he and Kathleen took up golf and joined Bogey Hills, and later Norwood Hills, country clubs, where they made many deep and lasting friendships. Tom was also actively involved in charitable organizations and donated both his money and his time to many causes. Both the Hardins were very concerned with the care of animals, taking in strays and supporting Stray Rescue and The Humane Society.
There will be a private celebration of Tom’s life on Saturday, May 9, 2015, at Norwood Hills Country Club in St. Louis. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the American Cancer Society and Missouri Humane Society.
